Especial: Fallas

Las Fallas son las fiestas populares en Valencia que culminan con la celebración del día de San José (19 de marzo). Desde el  1 de marzo, a las 2 de la tarde, todos los días hasta el  19, se reúne toda Valencia en la plaza del Ayuntamiento para ver la mascletà.
El día 15 de marzo empieza la plantà y el 16 a las ocho de la mañana ya está cada falla terminada, más de 700 monumentos que pueden alcanzar los 25 metros de altura. Ese día se transforma la ciudad y la gente la recorre de falla en falla. La falla del Ayuntamiento, la única fuera de concurso y la última en caer pasto de las llamas. De las 700 fallas con miles de ninots sólo uno se salva del fuego gracias al sufragio popular: el ninot indultat, que pasará al Museo Fallero.
Los días 17 y 18, la Virgen de los Desamparados es la protagonista. Cientos de falleros, vestidos con el traje valenciano, desfilan desde su falla con sus bandas de música hasta la Basílica de la Virgen para ofrecerle flores y con ellas se construye su manto. Ese día, también se celebra la Nit del Foc, un espectáculo pirotécnico en Alameda de Valencia, que ilumina la noche del cientos de colores de los fuegos artificiales.
El día 19, es el  último día en el  que todo acaba y todo empieza. Es un día agridulce lleno de música, de fuego, de ruido, de tristeza y alegría. Esa noche en Valencia ya se sueña con las Fallas del año siguiente.

The Fallas are the popular celebrations in Valencia that culminate with the celebration of the day of San José (19 of March). The 1st of March, at 2 o’clock on the evening, every day until 19th, all Valencia meets in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento to see the mascletà.
Day 15 of March begins the plantà and the 16th at eight o’clock in the morning all the fallas are ready, more than 700 monuments that can reach the 25 meters of height. That day the city is completely transformed, and people cross the city from one falla to another. The falla of the City council, unique outside contest and the last one in falling I graze of the flames. Of the 700 fallas with thousands of ninots only one is saved of the fire thanks to the popular suffrage: ninot indultat which will be moved to the Fallero Museum.
Days 17th and 18th, the Virgen de los Desamparados is the protagonist. Hundreds of falleros, dresses with the Valencian suit, and walk from their falla with their music bands to the Basilica of the Virgin to offer flowers to her and with them its mantle is constructed. That day, also the Nit del Foc, a pyrotechnic spectacle is celebrated in Alameda of Valencia, which illuminates the night with hundreds of colours of fireworks.
The 19th is the last day in which everything finishes and begins at the same time. It is a bittersweet day of music, fire, noise, sadness and happiness. That night in Valencia everybody dreams about the Fallas of the following year.
