Turtles, Nature, and Good Vibes!

Turtles, Nature, and Good Vibes!

Yesterday, several students from Costa de Valencia, Spanish language school, swapped the classroom for rubber boots to enjoy a different kind of experience: we joined the Projecte Emys at the Marjal de Rafalell i Vistabella!

This volunteer project, organized by Acció Ecologista-Agró, has a clear goal: to help protect a very special species, the European pond turtle (Emys orbicularis), which lives in this beautiful wetland near Valencia.

So, what did we do there?

We became real “biologists for a day.” We took part in counting and studying these turtles, learned how to identify them, how to collect scientific data, and most importantly, why it’s so crucial to protect their natural habitat. All of this while surrounded by nature, fresh air, and great company.

For many of our students, it was the first time they had ever touched a wild turtle or walked through a wetland. Some even picked up new Spanish words related to the environment… A perfect way to learn outside the classroom, don’t you think?

The best part?

The atmosphere. Because even though we were there to help, there was also time to laugh, take photos, share stories, and enjoy the surroundings. It was an activity where you not only learn, but also connect: with nature, with others, and with yourself.

If you missed it this time, don’t worry! Projecte Emys is still going strong, so there will definitely be more chances to join. At Costa de Valencia, we love combining Spanish learning with real-life experiences that truly make a difference.

Are you in for the next one?
