The Night of San Juan is celebrated in Valencia from 23rd to 24th June. It is the shortest night of the year and officially marks the beginning of summer. It is a magical night that has been celebrated since ancient times. What does the night of San Juan in Valencia consist of?
On the Night of San Juan, bonfires are lit by the sea, and groups of friends gather on the beaches of Valencia to have dinner together, perform rituals, make wishes, dance and sing. A fun night in which Verbenas de San Juan are celebrated all over the city. Fire and water are the protagonists and are present in the rituals for good luck. Tradition dictates jumping 7 waves of the sea at midnight on the 24th of June and jumping over the flaming bonfires to ward off bad energy.
