How much time do you need to learn Spanish?

How much time do you need to learn Spanish?

One of the first doubts that come to our minds whenever we decide to start learning a new language is how much time we will need to learn it.

At Costa de Valencia, Spanish language school, we know that our students want to communicate in Spanish as soon as possible, that's why we teach them to learn fast!

The truth is that there is no magic method that will make our students learn in a week or become fluent in Spanish. But there are some factors that affect the timing of learning.

Factors that affect the learning of Spanish

We must take into account certain aspects that will influence the student's learning of Spanish. These are:

  • The mother tongue. If you share a Romance language (Italian, French or Portuguese), it will be much faster.
  • The learning objective. It depends on the degree of knowledge you want to have of a language.
  • The time you can invest in it. If you dedicate little time to it, you will not be able to keep up with the learning pace of a student who dedicates a lot of time.
  • Motivation. Very important to feel open to learning.
  • The type of course you take: partial or intensive. This aspect is related to the time you dedicate to learning.
  • If you have studied Spanish before. It is not the same to start from a base than to build a knowledge from scratch.
  • The level of fluency you want to acquire. An aspect directly related to the learning objective.

Another factor to take into account has to do with the learning capacity of each person. Even having a lot of motivation, time and dedicating a lot of effort, it can cost more. Or, on the contrary, dedicating very little effort, there are people who learn very fast.

Our goal at Costa de Valencia, Spanish language school, is that all our students learn while enjoying the city and the culture. This method allows you to become familiar with both Valencia and its people and to learn faster.

Approximate time to learn Spanish

Some students need to know the number of hours or weeks they have to invest in learning Spanish, but it is difficult to determine exactly how long.

At Costa de Valencia, Spanish language school, on-site courses start every week and at all levels, so people interested in learning Spanish can do so at any time.

To meet the needs of each student, we offer 6 levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Our Intensive 20 courses are structured so that students progressively advance through these levels. The standard schedule is as follows:

  • Level A1: 3 weeks duration
  • Level A2.1+A2.2: 4 weeks
  • Level B1.1+B1.2: 6 weeks
  • Level B2.1+B2.2: 8 weeks
  • Level C1.1+C1.2: 10 weeks
  • Level C2: 12 weeks

The number of weeks for each level is only an estimate. The student's attitude, aptitude and motivation will be the most important factors in learning Spanish.

Before starting the course at Costa de Valencia, Spanish language school, all students must take a written and oral level test. This test is carried out and corrected by our teachers in order to place the students in the corresponding group according to their level. We do not put students of different levels together in the same group.

In addition to teaching courses at all levels, we offer specific courses to pass official exams and also Private Spanish Lessons for all students who are looking for a personalized way to learn the language.
