Advice on how to prepare for an official Spanish exam
The DELE certificate (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera), the SIELE (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española), the diplomas of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, even the Abitur and Matura exams give you the opportunity to demonstrate your Spanish language skills. To do well in these exams, it is important that you prepare properly.
Here are some tips on how to pass the official Spanish exams:
1. Know the structure of the exam.
Find out about the different sections of the test, such as reading comprehension, writing, listening and speaking. Familiarise yourself with the format and the types of questions you might encounter in each section.
2. Establish a study plan.
Create a realistic and consistent study schedule. Spend time practising all language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Divide your study sessions into smaller blocks and address different aspects of the Spanish language in each session.
3. Attend Spanish classes.
Having classes with experienced teachers who know how the DELE, SIELE, ABITUR, MATURA or Madrid Chamber of Commerce exams work will make you even more prepared for the exam. But it will not only help you to pass the exam, it will also help you to improve your Spanish language learning.
At Costa de Valencia, escuela de español we offer specific courses to prepare for the DELE, SIELE, Chamber of Commerce and Abitur exams and we also have private Spanish classes for all students who are looking for a personalised way to learn the language.
4. Expand your vocabulary.
Improve your knowledge of Spanish words and expressions. Read Spanish books, newspapers and magazines, and keep a dictionary handy to look up new words. Practice using vocabulary in different contexts to become familiar with its correct usage.
5. Practice grammar.
Review grammar rules and practise applying them in specific exercises. Pay attention to tenses, conjugations and sentence structures. Do grammar exercises and look for online resources for further practice.
6. Do reading comprehension exercises.
Improve your ability to understand written texts in Spanish by practising reading comprehension exercises. Read articles, essays and academic texts in Spanish, and answer related questions.
7. Listen to music, podcasts and television programmes in Spanish.
Improve your listening comprehension by exposing yourself to the Spanish language in different contexts. Listen to music in Spanish, subscribe to podcasts and watch Spanish-language TV programmes or films to get used to the rhythm and pronunciation of the language.
8. Practice writing and speaking.
Write regularly in Spanish to improve your writing skills. You can keep a journal, write an essay. Also, look for opportunities to practise speaking, such as conversations with native speakers or participating in language exchange groups.
9. Take mock exams.
As you get closer to the test date, take full mock exams to familiarise yourself with the actual test format and conditions. This will help you manage your time and identify areas where you need to improve.
10. Keep a positive attitude.
Be confident in your abilities and believe in yourself. Fear of failure can be your worst enemy, so stay calm and remember that every test is an opportunity to learn and improve.
